The environment

With a surface area of 119 Km2 and almost 3,000 inhabitants, Boal Council is located in the north western part of Asturias. It is communicated through the main access road AS-12 Navia-Grandas and, besides, the village of Boal is only 23 km from Navia, an lively village at the Cantabrian Sea.

The main activity in the Municipality area is cattle farming, but tourism is increasing and becoming very important due to its exclusive environment, historical monuments, mountains, rivers, valleys, beekeeping industry and, mainly, to the heart-warming character of these people who kindly share their history with visitors. Come and visit Boal, you will always keep good memories of it!
The whole area offers a wide range of places worth visiting. The most important ones, the "Cova del Demo" (cave painting); burial mounds in "Sierra de Penouta" (Neolithic period); pre Romanesque settlements, such as Pendia, La Escrita and Coaña; Doiras and Arbón Dams; the Beekeeping House and the Honey Route; the Ethnographic Museum in Grandas; Llaviada, Puente de Castrillón and Pena Queimada picnic areas; trekking and horse riding through Penácaros and Penouta.
Navia River allows practising numerous aquatic activities: canyon descent, canoe and rowboats renting, trout fishing, etc. It also has wonderful swimming areas where you can enjoy still and transparent waters.
